Before debut

At the age of 6

Jisoo was born on 3 January 1995 in Gunpo, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, the youngest of two children. When she was in middle school, her family moved to Gwacheon, Gyeonggi-do, where she spent the rest of her school years, and as a child she dreamed of becoming a painter.

Jisoo’s family all loved to sing, and whenever they got together, she would always sing and dance in front of them. The good response she received each time made her want to do better in front of many people, so she started going to auditions.

After graduating from Taeul Elementary School, she entered Yongho Middle School and then transferred to Gwacheon Middle School. He then went on to Gwacheon Central High School. He dropped out of high school to become a trainee.

He was a member of the theatre club in high school and dreamed of studying theatre and film. To gain experience in auditioning, the first company she auditioned for was YG, and she was accepted at once. Her audition song was Eunmi’s “I Have a Lover”. She was a trainee for five years from July 2011.

After Debut

BLACKPINK Activities

Jisoo

Jisoo began her group career on 8 August 2016 at the age of 21 with BLACKPINK’s debut single SQUARE ONE.

Unlike the other members who have strong personalities, Jisoo has a low to mid-range voice and has a soft, relaxed sound. He uses a lot of chords to neutralise the other members’ voices. She has a stable live performance that is almost as good as her recordings.

One of the factors and differentiators of BLACKPINK’s global success is that the members all grew up in different cultures, which creates a unique synergy. While this has its advantages, it also has the disadvantage of blurring the group’s identity as a Korean K-POP group, making it difficult for them to resonate with the Korean public.

However, Jisoo is the only member who was born and raised entirely in South Korea, making her the most Korean and accessible of the four members in terms of musical style and appearance. This not only helps to define the group’s identity as a K-Pop group, but also allows them to attract both domestic and international audiences.

Jisoo’s presence in BLACKPINK is therefore a very important position, as she is an integral part of the group’s identity.

Jisoo

BLACKPINK does not have a leader, but as the eldest member, she is well followed by the members and cares a lot about her team and fans.

Solo Career

Solo Career

On 31 March 2023, she released her first solo album and became BLACKPINK’s fourth and final solo debutante.

As of 20 March 2023, pre-orders for Jisoo’s first solo album have exceeded 950,000 copies.

The title track, “Flower,” became a chart-topper in Korea and around the world, and Jisoo performed a solo set at Coachella 2023.

Positions

Vocalist

She is the lead vocalist of BLACKPINK. His voice is slightly husky and muddy, but his tone is light and airy, and he uses nasal notes to produce high notes and vocalisations. Overall, Jisoo has the smallest number of parts among the members, but due to the small number of members and the outstanding talents of all the members, Jisoo has quite a few parts, and along with main vocalist Rose, he has been responsible for the pre-chorus of all of their titles so far. His voice is quite compatible with the unique voice of minor member Rose.

She is the member who is most often praised for being the most stable live. In fact, if you listen to the recording and live, they are almost at the same level, and all the members of BLACKPINK chose Jisoo as the best live member. Her vocalisation is solid and her voice is loud. Since their debut, they have shown that they are improving day by day and have grown a lot and have been well received.

He also appeared on Park Jin Young’s Party People programme and performed a cover of Miguel’s Sure Thing, demonstrating his considerable musical achievements with a stable, sweet tone and appropriate harmonies, and received great praise from fans around the world, with thousands of likes and comments such as “Jisoo’s skills are not as good as other members? Look at this video” and “His voice is really sweet and comfortable to listen to.” He also plays a role in adding chords behind Rose and Jenny’s songs, which makes Jenny and Rose’s songs sound richer.

At the beginning of her debut, the public expected that Jisoo would not have many parts because of her outstanding visuals, but in addition to her lead vocal position, she sang the chorus and pre-chorus of “Bom Baya” and “Whistle” respectively. At the beginning of his debut, he had a narrow vocal range, but recently he has been handling high-pitched parts well.

<In “Kill This Love,” she also took on the high-pitched part with Rose, and the video of her singing the falsetto part of “You~” live during the dance break of “Don’t Know What To Do” became a hot topic.

In addition, she was praised as “better than most main vocalists” for her loud but stable vocals in the live encore video of BLACKPINK’s 2020 pre-release single “How You Like That”. On her subsequent full-length album, THE ALBUM, she is loved by global fans for her husky voice and her first English parts.

On her second album, BORN PINK, released in 2022, she showed off her wide range as a vocalist, switching between rap, bass, treble, and falsetto. Her vocals in “The Happiest Girl” received so much attention that a separate reaction video was created, and there are many videos of people crying while listening to Jisoo’s part. “I didn’t know Jisoo’s falsetto was so beautiful,” are some of the comments.

At the BLACKPINK IN YOUR AREA WORLD TOUR Seoul concert held on 10 and 11 November 2018, she sang Zedd’s “Clarity” as a solo song and received many compliments on her vocal performance.

And on the December 2018 arena tour, she performed Mika Nakashima’s Snow Flower as a solo, which showcased Jisoo’s mid-bass voice at its most beautiful. This performance was another compliment to her tone and vocals. With the comeback of “Tudu Tudu Tudu,” she has been receiving great praise for her improved singing and dancing skills.

During the Japanese dome tour, which ran from December 2019 to February 2020, AKMU sang AKMU’s How Will I Love You Until Goodbye and Beggar Who Loves You, showcasing his more emotionally developed vocals.

At the BORN PINK WORLD TOUR Seoul concert on 15 and 16 October 2022, Camila Cabello’s Liar was performed as a solo performance. It was the first time she performed dance and vocals at the same time. Jisoo’s unique mid-bass sound and the atmosphere of the original song went very well together, and she received great praise for her stable live performance with dance, proving once again that she can handle Latin pop perfectly. The dance break at the end of the show was said to be the highlight. The original songwriter, Camila Cabeiro, also praised Jisoo’s cover on her Instagram story.

Dancing

This member has been improving in the dance department. At the beginning of their debut, it was pointed out that their dance lines were stiff and lacked detail, but as their activities progressed, their dance lines and control of their movements improved. In particular, many fans have praised her for her improved skills in the 2020 music broadcast stage and official performance videos, and she is also receiving attention for her smoother dance lines in the video. In the official performance video of “Shut Down” in 2022, Jisoo’s wave dance line was beautiful and caused a small buzz.YouTube icon
