What is BLINK?

They actively promote BLACKPINK’s music, videos, and performances, contributing significantly to the group’s success. Blinks also foster a positive community culture through various fan events, donations, and more.

BLACKPINK FANDOM

BLINK is a fandom for the girl group BLACKPINK.

On 15 January 2017, BLACKPINK posted a photo on their official Instagram account with the word BLINK written in pink on a black background, which became the official name of the fandom.

BLINK is a combination of the first letter of BLACK and the last letter of PINK, INK, from BLACKPINK’s team name. It simply means ‘let’s start and end together’ by connecting the first and second letters.

In 2018, the first official round of Blink recruitment was held. The period was from 18 July at 11am to 1 August at 11am. With the official recruitment, the scattered fandom atmosphere has been brought together, and overseas Blinks are actively supporting the project.

As of 17 December 2021, it is now possible to join at any time through Weverse.

One of the most influential girl groups in the world, Blink’s largest fanbase was relatively concentrated in Asia in the early days of their fandom. After releasing a single in their second year, they gradually gained recognition in North America, Europe, and South America.

In 2018, when they made a comeback in the third year, their songs and music videos hit the charts, and their fan base grew rapidly in China and other parts of the world, and their popularity was confirmed by the release of their second EP in 2019, as well as the hot response at the Coachella stage in the United States and their world tour performance.

In March 2020, Lisa’s appearance on “Youth Uni 2” led to a significant increase in fandom in China, which had been a sign of things to come, and indicators such as the sales of their first full-length album and online concerts in 2020 began to show that they were number one in the U.S. In addition, BLACKPINK’s fans in South America have grown rapidly, and the group has become so globalised that it is virtually impossible to pick a region where they are most popular, as they were the number one streamed foreign artist in Brazil that year.

That’s why the live chat and YouTube comments are very exotic, especially English, and even Korean fans use English. It is said that overseas fans help them study English. The number of domestic fans, which was considered a weakness at the beginning of their debut, has also increased considerably.

In addition to new fans, female fans of YG’s other singers also joined BLACKPINK’s fandom, and the ratio of male fans to female fans was about 2:8 at the beginning of their debut, but now it is about 4:6, with a large proportion of male fans.

The attitude towards their agency, YG Entertainment, is very hostile. There are two main reasons for this: complaints that the agency is too accommodating to the singer, such as problems with comeback cycles and somewhat limited broadcast appearances, and that BLACKPINK’s image has suffered due to various incidents. They even sent a truck to YG’s offices and demanded that they improve these issues.

LIGHT STICK

Pre-release

Before the official LIGHT STICK were released, BLACKPINK used Trevi sticks, which were made using their advertising model Trevi. They are glow-in-the-dark, so they glow.

You can easily make your own at home by following these steps

  1. Cut off the lid of the trebuchet to about 3.5cm in diameter.
  2. Get a $1 flashlight from Daiso(Cheap general stores in South Korea).
  3. Insert the flashlight into the 3.5cm diameter hole and wrap it with insulating tape.
  4. Stick a BLACKPINK logo sticker on the label of the Trevi logo.

Jisoo also mentioned that she felt sorry for BLACKPINK and hoped that the LIGHT STICK would come out soon. Blipping House also announced that the LIGHT STICK are coming soon.

Recently, on V LIVE, Jisoo mentioned that the design of the LIGHT STICK has been finalised.

BLACKPINK OFFIClAL LIGHT STICK

It’s nicknamed the “pong-bong”.

went on sale on 28 May 2018, and the design is out: a glowing mallet in a pink and black colour scheme to match the team’s name.

The response to the pom-poms has been mixed, and the members actually participated in the design process. They began selling them on YG SELECT on 28 May 2018.

BLACKPINK OFFICIAL LIGHT STICK Ver.2 LIMITED EDITION

In October 2020, YG created and released a new app called BLACKPINK LIGHT STICK Ver.2. By connecting the app to the stick, you can remotely set the stick to a colour-changing mode.

Since the original stick didn’t have this feature, fans speculated that a new, upgraded stick would be released soon, and in November, it was.

Smaller in size than the original, and designed to emit different coloured lights remotely, it sold out almost as soon as it was released.

BLACKPINK OFFICIAL LIGHT STICK Ver.2

It was released in July 2022.
There are a number of differences from the previous BLACKPINK OFFICIAL LIGHT STICK Ver.2 LIMITED EDITION, including the exclusion of the stand as a component and small changes to the silicone colour and button colour.
